چکیده

A 61-year-old woman, in receipt of haemodialysis for 11 years, was diagnosed with a high-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Thallium-201 single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) was performed during the cancer work-up (Figure 1). Unenhanced CT images of the SPECT/CT demonstrated a left adrenal mass (31.7 mm in size) with a homogeneous density of 62 HU. Scintigraphic SPECT images of the SPECT/CT showed an abnormal focus of increased radiotracer activity in the left upper quadrant of abdomen. The corresponding SPECT/CT fusion images confirmed the focus in the left adrenal medulla. The patient underwent a left adrenalectomy and the pathological findings indicated the histological characteristics of pheochromocytoma (Figure 2). Pheochromocytoma is a rare catecholamine-secreting tumour with a potential for cardiovascular devastation if the diagnosis is overlooked. The tumour may present with a diversity of imaging features that result from various histological degenerations including fibrosis, calcification, congestion, haemorrhage, necrosis and cystic change. Therefore, pheochromocytoma is often referred to as an epithet ‘imaging chameleon’ [1]. An adrenal mass with attenuation value >10 HU on CT usually suggests a radiological diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. Thallium201, a widely used radiotracer for myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, has been proved effective in the diagnosis

Thallium-201 single-photon emission CT versus CT for the detection of recurrent squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Thallium-201 single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) can be used to detect primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCCA) of the head and neck. Nevertheless, there have very few studies performed to evaluate the ability of thallium-201 to depict recurrent SCCA. The purpose of this study was to compare the ability of thallium-201 SPECT with CT to enable detection of rec...

Comparison of barium swallow, CT and thallium-201 SPECT in evaluating responses of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma to preoperative chemoradiotherapy.

The aims of this study were to compare the results of thallium-201 (Tl-201) SPECT, barium swallow and CT in the assessment of the effect of preoperative chemoradiotherapy. This study consisted of 28 patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (AESCC) who underwent the three imaging modalities before and after preoperative chemoradiotherapy. The results were quantified using the bi...

Idiopathic hypertrophic cranial pachymeningitis with accumulation of thallium-201 on single-photon emission CT.

We report a case of idiopathic hypertrophic cranial pachymeningitis in which a high accumulation of thallium-201 was observed on an early single-photon emission CT (SPECT) scan. The patient's symptoms initially improved with steroid therapy but recurred repeatedly. MR images failed to show any change with treatment; however, thallium-201 uptake correlated closely with the fluctuation of symptom...

Comparison of thallium-201 and F-18 FDG SPECT uptake in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

PURPOSE To compare the uptake of 2-[F-18] fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (fludeoxyglucose F-18; F-18 FDG) and thallous chloride Tl 201, using single-photon emission CT (SPECT), for the detection and location of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. METHODS Five patients with biopsy-proved squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract underwent both F-18 FDG and thallium-201 SPECT...

Thymic tuberculosis preoperatively evaluated with thallium-201 SPECT: two resected cases.

We present 2 resected cases of thymic tuberculosis, which had been preoperatively diagnosed as invasive thymoma, using a thallium-201 ((201)Tl) single photon emission computed tomography ((201)Tl SPECT). [Patient 1] A 74-old-male with a 32-year history of steroid therapy for rheumatic arthritis was diagnosed with an anterior mediastinal tumor by routine chest CT scans after onset of myocardial ...
